What are the consequences of fouling in the boiler?

It is known that the build-up phenomenon of combustion by-products like fine carbon, ash, soot, and slag on the tube surfaces of screens, evaporators, superheaters, air preheats and economizers causes two main problems:
 

1. Significant efficiency decrease of the boilers:
    The flue (hot) gases are unable to transfer heat
    energy to water or steam in the boiler, and hence we        lose a considerable part of the heat energy. 
   

2. Significant capacity decreasing:
    The dramatically rising of boiler’s aerodynamics  
    resistance in flue gas path because of the fouling or,
    in other words, because of a High Pressure                             Differentials,
    leads to a shortage of supplied combustion air  that in
    its turn results in non-complete combustion and
    reducing of heat (steam) capacity. The non-complete
    combustion leads to additional accumulation of the
    fouling in the boilers.

 

The importance of clean heat transfer surfaces
in a boiler:
